Its municipal district covers the coastal strip from the mouth of the Guadalhorce River to Benalmádena and up to the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas.
Although its history seems to have begun in 1489, Torremolinos is the typical product of the tourist boom of the 1960s, which transformed this small fishing village into an expanding and populous city, totally dedicated to the so-called “sun and beach” tourism. In fact, it offers ample beaches, as well as all kinds of related facilities, not to mention its Congress Center, which has repeatedly hosted important international meetings. It still preserves some traces of its past in the suburbs of El Bajondillo and La Carihuela, but its most significant monument is still the Torre de Pimentel.
